“Tokachi-kawanishi Nagaimo Chiffon Satsumaimo (Sweet Potato)” is produced by Rokkatei, a confectionery maker in Hokkaido. Their signature sweet, “Marusei Butter Sand“, has fans all over Japan.

“Tokachi-kawanishi Nagaimo” is a kind of yam made in the Tokachi region in Hokkaido. The large temperature difference between day and night makes the yam smooth and snow-white with a viscous texture.

The unique thing about chiffon cakes is that they are made without leavening. The yam acts as a rising agent, producing the fluffy yet firm texture.

The phrase on the box, “The best product made with the best conscience”, shows their motto of food safety first.

Plenty of sweet potato dices are mixed in this soft chiffon cake.

This satsumaimo flavor is only available from October to late January, but there are other flavors  throughout season.

Each priced at 500 yen, sold as a whole in a box.

This cake is a sweet potato fiesta.

The sponge is so elastic, no need to sweat about smashing it when slicing.

The Tokachi yam gives a special fluffy and moist texture.

Plenty of sweet potato dices add a great kick, the delightful solid texture and mild sweetness bring out the deliciousness of the chiffon.

It costs only 500 yen for a whole cake, making it a good gift. Make sure to eat it as early as possible though.
