“Shirakaba Youkan” is produced by Rokkatei, a confectonery maker based in Obihiro, Hokkaido.
It is an assortment of Japanese confectionery youkan (sweet bean jelly), with a shirakaba (Japanese white birch) motif wrapping.
Shirakaba is a typical tree in Hokkaido with beautiful white barks.
You can enjoy three types of youkan: smooth sweet bean paste (”koshi-an”), mashed sweet bean paste (ogura-an) and chestnuts.
I got a kick out of slicing the youkan with the enclosed string – it cuts so well.
The package design imitates the bark of the white birch very well.
Slice it into your favorite thickness with the string. I liked how you won’t end up with sticky fingers.
I ate this light-sweetened smooth youkan in no time.
Get a feeling of Hokkaido from the chic design and the various flavors.
